An egg a day for a period of six months: this may be an effective measure against malnutrition and promote child development, as found by a study conducted in Ecuador that was recently quoted by www.bbc.com. A group of researchers from Washington University provided 80 children in the rural highlands of Ecuador with an egg every day. Forty percent of children in this region are malnourished, and, consequently, underdeveloped. The study showed: while 37 children were considered short for their age at the start of the study, this number decreased by 43 percent to only 21 underdeveloped children within the period of the study. Eggs contain many nutrients, including choline, a nitrogen compound that has been connected with growth in animal research. Vitamins and animal protein help build muscle tissue. The research results were published in “Pediatrics”, one of the leading scientific journals for pediatrics.
